World affairs are more volatile and alarming each day. Death and destruction increase, and I can barely stand watching the news. My heart breaks. As a Christian, I follow the news and try to understand the times I live in, from the viewpoint of Scripture.
The disciples asked Jesus: “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” The entire chapter of Matthew 24 was His answer to their question. He told them in verse 42, “Therefore keep watch.”
So I keep watch and I look for the signs. The times and signs tell me that Jesus is coming soon to remove His church from the world before a time of great suffering and judgement. People often ponder how they would live, if they knew today was their last day. As a child of the King, I ponder how I should live, if the Lord Jesus is soon going to remove me from this world and meet me and His church in the clouds.
He answers me, “Do business till I come.” (Luke 19:13New King James Version) I ask, “What business.” He answers me indirectly by being my example: “Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49 New King James Version) So I am to spend these days awaiting my imminent departure doing my Father’s business.
Since the parable in Luke 19 talks of talents we are given to do the Father’s business until our Lord returns, I am taking inventory of my talents and praying for wisdom on how to best invest them for eternal returns. It seems to be an urgent task, in light of today’s current events. What do you think?
Heavenly Father, give me wisdom, strength, and perseverance to keep doing business until my Lord Jesus meets me in the clouds.
