Long ago, I decided that verses 23-26 from Psalms 73 were my life verses. They perfectly summarized where my strength came from, the path I was traveling on, and my final destination – my destiny. Over a lifetime these verses have been my comfort and my hope.
“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by the right hand.” – In spite of my sins, my failures, my doubts, my fears, my complaints, the Father holds my hand tightly – He has my hand in his – I am so glad our journey together didn’t hinge on my never letting go of him. “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” – The one who holds me, guides and counsels me – The one who guides me will lead me into glory by his wisdom and goodness, not mine – What sweet relief and freedom. “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” – If my only loved one in heaven was Jesus, I would leave everyone behind for all eternity to be with him – Nothing this world has to offer can compare to the joy and fulfillment of knowing him – May earth lose its allure for me, its grip on me. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” – My flesh and my heart are weak – they are unreliable – the strength God gives is trustworthy – he is my everlasting strength and portion.
Oh my God, I praise you for holding my hand, for guiding me, for taking me to glory and for being my strength and my portion forever.
